This article is to investigate the status of pregnancy anemia under the literatures are reviewed.
The changes in iron metabolism, blood volume, hemoglobin, hematocrit, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, total serumprotein during pregnancy and the treatment of pregnancy anemia have been discussed.
The followings are the summary result of this review.
1. Pregnancy anemia are associated with serum iron and albumin deficiency.
2. The increased in blood volume results from an increased in both plasma and erythrocytes.
3. In spite of the augmented erythropoiesis the concentrations of hemoglobin and erythrocytes, as well as the hematocrite, commonly decreased slightly during normal pregnancy.
